St. Louis--For its 50th anniversary, the Society for the Study of Evolution returned here, where the group began, meeting jointly with the Society of Systematic Biologists from 19 to 23 June to further the evolving symbiotic relationship between these two disciplines. Among the talks was a plea to do away with the Linnaean system of biological classification, and a description of coevolution of closely related species of squid and luminescent bacteria that inhabit the creatures' light organs.
